Chapter 2: The fire of life
Link followed the noise he heard as he went onto a nearby mountainside. He followed the noise to a quiet hilltop and right in front of him was a bush blazing with flames, but the branches didn't burn. Link was curious and picked up a nearby stick and put it into the flames. The fire surrounded it, but the wooden object didn't burn to cinders. Link felt it and the stick wasn't even warm. Link then decided to try something and tentatively stuck his hand into the fire. It felt very warm, but he wasn't becoming a charred skeleton. He took his hand out and it wasn't harmed in any way.
Link then heard something in almost a whisper, "Link..." He looked around and saw no one there and asked, "Who's there?" "Look at the blazing bush you see before you." The voice answered. Link seemed to realize that this fire was alive and talking to him. "Who are you?" He asked, "I am one of the great kings of Hyrule..." The voice began, "Daphnes Nohansen?" Link asked. Strangely, the fire replied, "I come from a time long before your king." The flames said as they began to rage. They then extended away from the plant and appeared to take on a human form. Link stared in awe and saw that it was a king alright and he looked surprisingly familiar. He had a mustache and beard along with royal robes and crown. "You don't know?" The figure asked. He then appeared to be going through a rewind in age. His mustache disappeared and his beard did too. He lost his robes and they were replaced by clothes that looked very familiar. "I am your ancestor. I am the Hero of Time in the legends."
Link stared in awe, paused for a while and then said, "But you're dead! You lived more than 300 years before me. How come you're standing before me?" "I have learned the way to save myself from death. If you don't believe me, maybe this will prove it." The spirit said. He closed his eyes and a spiritual form of Queen Zelda and all the other sages appeared. "Is that more than enough proof?" The spirit said, "I am indeed King Link the first: Your ancestor." Link dropped to his knees and said, "Tell me how to save myself from death." "If I do, promise you'll teach the people you know and spread the word." King Link demanded, "I will..." was all Link said.
