Chapter 13: The strength of fairies and Dekus

Within the deepest depths of Woodfall temple, the great warrior, Odolwa, was standing in front of a young boy clad in green, Link, who lay still on his front side. Odolwa’s sword went straight through Link’s body, and into the floor. Blood surrounded Link on the floor. There was no doubt about it: Link was dead.

“The hero of old is dead,” Odolwa said “and nothing that threatens Majora’s power remains. Termina, the land that should never have existed, shall be destroyed.”

Deep within the mask that Link carried, the deku scrub, Link’s companion, cried. He had lost the only people he had, the dekus of the swamp, and now, he had also lost Link. Nothing remained in this life worth living for.

But, fluttering above Link’s body, there was a fairy, by the name of Tæl. Tæl had been Link’s companion for only a short amount of time, but, nevertheless, it had grown attached to him. “Link...you saved me,” it said, crying “and now, I must repay you...with the only thing I have.” It then began flying around his body several times, eventually disappearing.

“Ugh...” Link appeared to wake up, all his wounds healed. He stood up, a bit dazed, having forgotten most of what happened. It was the voice of the scrub, calling within his head, that caused him to remember everything. He´s here Link said to himself, as he looked at the mask but where’s Tæl?

“Tæl...” the scrub said to Link “Tæl is...dead. She sacrificed herself...for you.”

“What!?” Link said “Tæl is dead?”

“You’re fairy partner gave her life,” Odolwa then said “But it was for naught. You shall die here and now, and Majora shall rid the world of this unwanted land.”

Unwanted? What does he mean? “Heh. But I’m still here. And while I’m here, Majora won’t be able to do anything!” He then once again charged towards Odolwa.

“Don’t. It will just get you killed.” It was the scrub. “For good, this time.”

Link stopped and said But then, what do you suppose I do?

“Let me take over, I have an idea.”

You saw how he dealt with my attack. What can you possibly hope to achieve?

“Trust me.”

Well, I don’t have anything else I can do...I’ll do it. He then took up his mask, put it on and let the scrub take care of everything.

It ran straight towards Odolwa without even a hint of fear.

Was this your brilliant plan? Just charging straight in? That won’t do anything! But the scrub didn’t answer, just kept on going. At least say something!

“You won’t be disappointed.” It said and kept on running. Odolwa tried to hit it with the sword, but the scrub dodged it and, instead of attacking, ran straight towards the middle of the room.

At that time, Link noticed something: A deku flower in the middle of the room, and the deku was heading straight towards it. "You can’t go in there, we’d be cornered, we’d be killed! Unless...you can’t be hoping to...that’s impossible!"

But I will do it! It dived straight into the deku flower.

“Such fools.” Odolwa said “You’ve just thrown away your lives.” Odolwa then jumped into the air, thrusting his sword straight towards the flower “Majora shall rule!” But, just before his blade ended Link’s life again, the scrub shot out of the flower, right past Odolwa’s blade, and straight to his head. Odolwa fell to the ground and. While the scrub was still in the air, it took it’s mask off.

“I will leave the rest to you.” It said, and let Link regain control over his body. He knew exactly what to do: He took out his sword in midair and, Odolwa still on the ground, he thrust his sword straight into the body of his opponent. Odolwa screamed and screeched in pain, its body nailed to the ground, its arms and legs flailing around desperately.

Once it had stopped moving, Link drew his sword out, and stepped back, watching Odolwa’s corpse burn away in blue flames. But, it’s face, no, its mask, remained unharmed. Link could feel the power, that once inhabited Odolwa, flowing out of it, directly to Link. But, instead of going into his body, it flowed into the mask he had gotten from the happy mask salesman; the Fierce Deities mask. He felt it calling him. He took it up and heard it speak to him.

It told him to put it on. He almost did, but, remembering the mask salesman’s words, resisted the temptation.

He then left the temple, carrying Odolwa’s remains, his mask, and its extreme power, locked within the Fierce Deities mask, and headed for Clock town, in order to confront Majora.
