Chapter 5: A painful day, followed by a hostile ranch

A bit later, Link found himself in a strange tower. It was really big and there were wheels everywhere! At the bottom was a small river that pushed a wheel forward that then pushed another wheel which then pushed another one that was much higher. He had never seen such mechanics in his whole life in Hyrule!

He went up stairs and finally found a door out. He went out and saw a town that was also burnt to ashes. However, this town was empty. There was no one there.

Suddenly, he heard an eerie screech. A chill ran down his spine and he was paralysed through fright. He couldn’t move and just stood there. “W-wh-who’s th-there?” he just about managed to say. Then he saw someone stand up from behind a crate, where it had previously been crouching. He was enlightened that there was a normal person there, but.....when he looked closer, he was even more frightened! That person’s skin was actually rotting. It was extremely skinny and its’ face was scarred all over and looked like it was made of bark. There was no doubt; the screech came from that, that...thing...

And then it came again, that chilling scream. He could feel that same chill and, again, just stood there and watched it come closer...closer...closer...and, finally, it stood right in front of him. Now, it did something completely unexpected: it jumped at him and tried to strangle him while biting his face with sharp teeth. When he finally got loose, he cut it in half and, with one final screech, it died. His breathing was hard and his face was bleeding all over. But, what mattered was that he was alive, and conscious. However, there were more.

When he was finally out, he could hardly breathe and his whole body was numb and bleeding. However, it was night. And a peaceful one at that, too. Suddenly, something pushed him from behind. He felt searing pain and, when he looked behind him, he saw a big skull, enveloped in blue fire, behind him. He stood up and tried to draw his sword. But, strange enough, he couldn’t. Defenceless as he was, the skull attacked him. He had been hit over and over and, eventually, everything started going black; death was finally sinking into him.

“Cremia! Leave her alone already!”

“Aww, but sis-“

“I said, not until she wakes up!”

“Alright, alright.”

Link heard this conversation before he even opened his eyes. Appearantly, these were two girls; One named Cremia, who, judging by the voice, was probably just about his age; 12. The other one, however, was probably about 18-19, but he didn’t know what her name was, only that she was Cremia’s older sister. But...she? He was a boy...oh well, there were probably more people lying here.

Finally, he decided to open his eyes. He then heard, what was probably Cremia, say “Oh, she’s awake!” So, some other girl also woke up at the same time...But, what was really strange, was that a 12 year old girl, with long red hair looked at him. And another one who was almost exactly the same, only older (probably the other one) was also looking at him, with a smile.

“Welcome to Romani ranch. My name’s Romani and this here’s my little sister, Cremia.” So the older ones name was Romani, eh? You should really watch out little girl; the fields and town are dangerous! And it’s all coming from Ikana...”

Link now noticed something: there were no other people here. Which meant...... “You...you called me a girl...right?”

Cremia then said “Y-you’re a boy!? B-but, that skirt..”

“These are the fabled clothes of a Kokiri! Someone like you couldn’t kn-” But he stopped; Romani was holding a bow and arrow and aiming it at Link.

“You! You’re a Ghost! Right!?” She shouted at him “You’re one of them; the ghosts of the ancient Kokiri that guarded the Royal family of the Sheikah!”

He was astounded “I-I have no idea what you’re-“

“Sis!” Cremia called at her older sister “I felt him! He’s not a ghost, I know it!”

Then Link said “Actually, I have no idea what ghosts you’re talking about but, now that I think about it, I’m not really a Kokiri, although I was raised by them...” As he remembered that, he felt a pain, deep down in his heart.

“So you were raised by the ghosts!” Romani continued “So what!? You’re still one of them! Right!?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about!”

“Great Keeta sent you! It must be!”

“Who’s Keeta? The only really great one I know is the Great Deku tree!”

He isn’t lying, Romani thought, I can feel it

“Alright, you can stay. But, only if you can give me a good enough explanation. But, please, eat first; you almost look like those ReDeads in old clock town.”
