Chapter 9: Fairy for a map
“Where do you find a Deku flower, anyway?” Link mumbled to himself...one might think. But, he was actually talking to his companion, a Deku, whose body he currently inhabited. But, an answer never came; he just found one. It’s just like that day, Link thought, a great, big, well...flower! But how do you use it?
“Just dive into it and the Deku instincts will take care of the rest...hopefully.” A voice rang in his head. “You should be able to jump straight up and then hover onto that branch. There, you should be able to get into the flower over there and, finally, get that fairy in that tree.” Even if his companion couldn’t point in any direction, Link understood exactly where it was referring to.
“Just like that?”
“Just like that.”
Might as well give it a try, Link thought.
“That’s the spirit!”
Link was beginning to get annoyed; that Deku heard every single one of his thoughts, he had no privacy, at all! But, he went on.
The beginning went just like the Deku had said: He dived in and, somehow, his “Deku instincts” helped him. But, moving in the air was no small task. He had to try again and again and again to finally get it right. Then, he did the exact same thing on the next flower, except, this one had much more power and he almost lost balance. However, he did it in the first time (which was just as good; a fall from this height would be fatal!
And, then, the fairy. This wouldn’t be hard; it was right there, stuck in a trap, set by the map maker called Tingle. He was about to lift it when he heard: “WAAAIIITTT!!!” It was Tingle, right beneath him “YOU’LL NEED THIS!!!!!” He threw up a bottle. To Link’s surprise, he actually threw it this far up! “NOW, CATCH THE FAIRY IN THE BOTTLE!!!!!!!” He was so loud, Link thought his eardrum would pop! Regardless, he went on and, after almost falling, he caught the fairy. But, after the swing of the bottle, he fell down...........”BE CAREFUL WITH THE JAR!!!!!!!!!!” Tingle shouted. Link was falling from this height and all he cared about was the jar!?
“A little help here!?” Link shouted as a reply.
“Oh, of course.” Tingle said, as he put the remains of his popped balloon right where Link would land. It didn’t really help so much, but, at least it reduced the fatalness of the fall. But, it still hurt A LOT! “Have you got the fairy?”
“Have you got the map?” Link then said.
“Of course! Right.....here..........ah, here it is!” He showed him the map; it was perfect! It had the road Link travelled by, the shortcut and, most importantly, the
Palace! Finally!! And, it was done with a fine artist’s touch. Tingle was an expert at making maps, that much was clear! Link put his hand out, but, Tingle pulled the map back; “Fairy first!”
“Map first!” Link said.
“Fairy first!”
“Map first!” the argument went on for a long time but then, finally, Link said: “How ‘bout, we throw both in the opposite direction, at the same time!”
“Sounds well to me, just be sure to throw it into those soft, lush bushes.”
And then, they were ready to throw. But, deep within the bell sound of the fairy, Link heard a small voice, saying “Please! Help me!”
