Chapter 3: Hyrule Castle
Following Forger Smith, Finwë moved his head this way and that, marveling at the castle’s wide space. In his small hut, he barely had room to let anyone in, not even the humanoid goddesses. Here, he could take a pair of every existing creature in Hyrule and bring them in here and still have room for more. Forger Smith grabbed his shoulder and Finwë fell back.
“You excited, White Dragon?” Smith asked. Finwë looked forward and saw before him a highly fashioned man. His eyes were coal black and stern, and his skin looked coarse and worn from many years of age. But the smile the man had didn’t bring as much fear that Finwë had.
“White Dragon, this is the king you have been asked to meet,” Smith said. “I will leave you here to speak to him.” With that, Forger Smith turned around and headed to the door. Finwë quickly stood up and bowed to the king.
“You bow to no one yet, my boy,” the king started, “For you don’t know me.” Finwë stood straight.
“I apologize,” Finwë started, “I just think it is proper to bow to one of such splendor and acknowledgment.”
“The goddesses told you that, didn’t they?” the king continued. “ I hear your name is White Dragon. What are you really called?”
Finwë looked to the ground and replied, “I am Finwë, sir, called to me by the goddesses.”
“A son of the goddesses serves as a message to me,” the king said, “Finwë, did something happen to the goddesses?”
Finwë nodded, “They were turned to stone when I pulled this sword from the pedestal in the Temple of Time.”
“Never heard of the Temple of Time, could you tell me about it?”
Finwë gulped. So the goddesses kept the construction of the Temple of Time a secret. He wasn’t sure he should tell the king what it was. But a voice in his head stirred. It was Farore. He listened hard and she said, “Do not be scared, Finwë. He is someone you can trust.”
Finwë looked into the king’s eyes and said, “The Temple of Time was a home for me that the goddesses built. But as they constructed it, three evils formed. As I said, when I pulled this sword from the pedestal the goddesses turned to stone. It was the work of those three evils. I am trying to find the three great palaces of the goddesses to rid these evils. If you know where they are, I would be very grateful if you told me.”
“I can not tell you,” the king started. “But I can show you. Follow me.”
The king got up from his throne. Behind him were royal violet curtains. Cord hanging from the curtains would open them, but also reveal a doorway to a hidden room that only the king knew about. He grabbed the cord and asked, “Would you promise me to tell no one of this room?” Finwë nodded. The king smiled and pulled the cord. The door revealed, he stepped inside with Finwë right behind him. Finwë gaped and looked all around the room. Silver armor hung from the wall. Weapons were laid out on a wooden table. Scrolls were rolled tightly in box-like shelves. The king pulled out one of the scrolls and handed it to Finwë.
“I think you find this useful,” the king smiled. Finwë took the scroll and opened it to reveal a map. There were three small differently colored dots on the surface of the map. One was blue, another was red, and the last was green.
“These dots represent the goddesses’ palaces’ locations,” the king started. “I believe you will need a few things.” The king picked up a boomerang, a bow and quiver of arrows, and a bomb bag from the table of weapons. He gave them to Finwë who looked up from the map and took the weapons. He equipped the boomerang to his belt, wrapped the bow and quiver around his left shoulder to his right side, and tied the bomb bag to his belt. He rolled up the map and put it in his quiver. Right at that moment, the king brought down the chest and shoulder armor from the wall. He put on Finwë who looked around at him.
The king smiled and said, “You remind of my young self. I was always fully equipped and bore armor like yours. The only difference is the cause. I was like that because I was a young knight. You are because you need it and is on a quest for the fate of Hyrule. We depend on you, White Dragon.” The king turned and headed out the door.
Finwë remained in the glorious room of the king’s past for a moment longer. Then he followed the king outside. He continued down the chamber and walked out to the bright sunlight. He strode to the entrance of the town as villagers watched him walk by in fear.
They knew something had happened. For this boy had walked in an adolescent of innocence, and came out a knight of war.
