One day in Hyrule, a young lad named Link could feel a strange force drawing him. Feeling the
attraction of a grand adventure, Link lept atop his pony and rode across Hyrule. He rode and rode, and
finally after a short journey reached what his heart felt to be his destination. The force had drawn
Link to Hyrule Castle, a stronghold built in the middle of a forest in the shadows of a tall mountain.
The force continued to draw Link deep within Hyrule Castle, where he found a larger room. The
room's walls were lined with lamps, and at the end of the room, on a raised stage, were three
diases. On each dias, a piece of the Triforce glittered brilliantly, resting. Link slowly approached
the holy relic.
Link slowly walked up the steps, getting closer and closer to the three resting pieces of the golden Triforce. Even in rest, the pieces were yet not asleep. Floating slightly above their diases, the Triforce pieces slowly spinned as they watched over Hyrule's providence. As Link crossed the final step, and stepped onto the stage, the three pieces of the Triforce suddenly rose up. They formed a triangle, and Link was suddenly enveloped in a shaft of light. As Link was enveloped in the eery glow, he felt himself tumbling downward into darkness. Out of the darkness came a voice: "Link... Link... Accept our quest, hero! Accept the quest of the Triforce!" Link could do nigh but consent, before he was consumed by the darkness.
Link fell and fell, but he knew it not. Dark dreams haunted him as he slept. When he awoke, Link found himself in a forest he had never seen. Confused, he looked blankly at the unfamiliar surroundings. He heard pleasant music and laughing voices echoing from deep within the woods. Link followed the inviting voices until he came upon a traveling troupe of actors. He was immediately struck by the beauty of a young woman who was dancing about in circles. When the girl noticed Link, she smiled brightly and called to him.
"You've awakened! Good! I worried while you slept! You're Link, right?" The girl introduced herself
as Din, the dancer. "I saw a red flash in the woods, and when I went to see what it was...
You were lying there. Mystery surrounds you, Link. I'm just glad you're better!" Welcoming Link to
the land of Holodrum, Din invited him to dance with her. At first Link shyly refused, and went to
talk to the other members of the troupe. They all had a fine opinion of Din, complimenting her beauty,
her strong, fiery will, and her kind heart. One man even thought Din was smitten with Link! Link
found one large member of the troupe particulary interesting. "I am Impa, the troupe's cook. And you are?
Link? I see. Din, the dancing girl, found you collapsed in the woods. She's cared for you through your nightmares."
Link finally built up enough courage to talk to Din again. "Don't be shy!" she insisted, "It will
be more fun if we dance together!" She took him by the hand, and he reluctantly began to dance. After
a fun dance, they stopped for a moment and Din complimented him on his dancing skills. Suddenly, she
noticed Link's left hand. "Hey! Your left hand! It has a Triforce symbol on it. That is a sacred mark
in Hyrule. If it's the true symbol, then you are a hero with a special fate, Link." Din almost told
him more about herself, but thought better of it and continued dancing.
Unfortunately, the blissful moment did not last long. The sky suddenly went dark, and bolts of lightning violently struck the ground. A resounding, thunderous voice spoke from the heavens: "Hya, ha, ha! I've found you, Din, Oracle of Seasons! You hid yourself well, but you cannot deceive me by disguising yourself as a dancer. I am Onox, General of Darkness! Reveal yourself!" A great tornado dropped from the sky and drew near Din, as if to engulf her. The members of the troupe tried to stop it, but one by one they were flung aside by the tornado's powerful winds. Finally, only valiant young Link stood between Din and the tornado.
"Get out of my way, boy!" the voice boomed, and the tornado rushed straight at him. Link fought with all of his might, but was blown back by the tornado as he struggled against its awesome force. The tornado moved to take Din, but Link, with one last effort, lept up and sprang at the winds. This time he was flung far away, too far to help Din. Din was swept away in the wind, and carried across the land of Holodrum to Onox's dark castle far in the north.
When Din came to, she was in a dark room, chained to a rock. She started to struggle, but then she
heard loud footsteps approaching. Soon, Onox, General of Darkness, wearing full armor, was staring down
at the helpess Din with an evil gleam in his eye. "What do you plan to do with me?!?" Din screamed.
Onox coldly replied, "As you know, if I imprison the Oracle of Seasons and bury the temple that houses
the Season Spirits, the seasons of Holodrum will be cast into chaos, the bountiful gifts of nature will
rot, and all living things will perish!!! That is the world of darkness that I long for!" Din begged him
to spare Holodrum, but his only reply was roaring laughter.
Casting a strong magic spell, Onox imprisoned Din within a blue crystal. The first step in his long preparations complete, Onox now sent forth another command: "Down, Temple of Seasons!!! Spring, summer, fall, winter... Fall into chaos!" To the east, the Temple of Seasons began to tremble violently. As the temple sank slowly beneath the earth, the seasons of Holodrum fell wildly into chaos. Within minutes, all four seasons were raging out of control. As the seasons fell into chaos, the land was deprived of the bountiful gifts of nature. Life was slowly being drained from the land, and all living things began to wither. And so Onox set in motion his plan to gather the power from the withering land and create a world of total darkness.
