A sword is a sword, sometimes less is more. Personally I would like to see Link in tunic armour...that would be too cool!

The most functional swords are usually the plainest looking ones. I'd say it's a good thing this sword isn't so pimped with detailed colors and facny guards and pommels. Nintendo wants this game not only to look realistic, but to BE realistic in general(as far as Zelda games go), and a sword that looks like it's made by 'Pimp my Blade' from the very beginning of the game ain't very realistic at all(that's probably why they also gave Link at least some protection, what with the Chainmail under the Tunic and all). So it's a good thing that the sword is generic-looking.

link would look a lot more cooler if he wore plate armor........Lunar6 is right, but you are forgetting that the final boss,some bosses,in fact are ''magical'' OR Full of evil and such,to defeat them link will need a magical weapon,so therefore,he needs another sword because something super magical can't be made to look like a cheap blade also he might get another shield.

I think Lunar6 and germanlink are both right. A plain normal sword is realistic and you want a realistic feel to swordplay, but the game is fictional and you don't want complete reality because that would be boring. So then they add in something like the Master Sword to spice things up and make you feel all powerful and stuff. Something to just make the game more interesting and still keep a realistic feel to the game. Besides, what would Zelda do without the Master Sword?

The plain looking sword lays more creedence to the realistic feel they are going for. The Lord of the Rings had somewhat simplistic designs, but they only made the world feel more THOROUGH - overly showy things in fantasy tends to make it look cheesy.

but what if in this game U can't use the master sword

actually, I remember seeing this thing in a fanart section(not this place) where this one guy cropped a screenshot of Link and zoomed in on it and it showed him holding a sword that looked somewhat familiar to the Master Sword, leaving a possibility that it is in this game. I think it's at ZHQ.(but what's unrealitic about even this sword is the fact that Link can draw it from his back with ease, it's seemingly much too long, bladewise, to do that. A blade of that length s usually supposed to be held along the waistline)

Perhaps there would be an option to choose several swords like in soul calibur two.

That probably wont hapen, maybe on Zelda in The revolultion.
