Chapter 1: Chapter 1: One Day In Hyrule
It was a long, long time ago. The lush kingdom of Hyrule flourished and enjoyed a long era of peace.
However, a dreadful force brewed within the horrid depths of the planet. As the people of this blessed land enjoyed their dwindling moments of peace, it came. A vile beast arose and engulfed in planet in its acrid darkness.
This darkness, known throughout as The Shadows, ravaged Hyrule, raining destruction down upon the kingdom and its neighboring lands. Many a brave warrior rose to defend their homeland but one by one fell, unable to see this demon wounded in the least. With their fate seemingly sealed, Hyrule’s final days seemed to be at hand...
But, the people’s prayers were answered. A fateful day came when a young man, wielding a blade and power delivered unto him by the Goddesses and the Picori, arrived before the populace and decreed that he would slay this foul beast alone. This warrior, displaying both unparalleled wisdom and courage, defeated The Shadows and delivered the land the peace it so longed for.
This young man was hailed as a hero, bestowed with the title of Hero of Men by those he saved. However, whether by his own will or some terrible turn of events, the hero vanished. The very weapons used to subdue The Shadows were taken and sealed away and the young hero’s name erased from history. None to this day know what became of this hero while fewer still even remember his valiant deeds.
The Shadows were sealed away but its fearsome essence still envelopes the planet, keeping its stranglehold over the land and its people, silently influencing the events of the world. For as long as people can remember, all things have been connected, chained together by The Shadows.
But, can one truly find truth from legends?
It’s only a matter of time before the hero returns to set things right...
A soul waits in utter silence... waiting to be reborn…

Chapter 1: One Day In Hyrule
The blistering summer sun hung high overhead that fateful day. The courtyards surrounding Hyrule Castle were quiet, as usual. The stationed around the castle grounds knew it was just another ordinary day. Just another day of patrolling the grounds, inspecting any strange noises, and shooing away wild animals so they don’t disturb the gardens. As expected, it looked to be just another dull, boring day.
Little did they know how soon that would change.
It was something the guards never wanted to hear. Somehow, an unknown intruder had infiltrated the castle and attacked the princess, Zelda. The perpetrator had escaped, but they wouldn’t stand idly by while someone had just harmed the royal family. Their order: to kill on sight. With orders or not, the numerous defenders of the castle would have done anything to find this heinous monster. But, that’s when word began to spread of the supposed attacker.
Many had second thoughts. They just couldn’t believe that someone they thought of as a close friend would commit such a despicable act. But, they had a duty to the crown. And they would defend it.
It was just past noon when the soldiers began to pour out of the castle, filtering out in all directions to ensure the safety of the castle and its inhabitants. The soldiers trained their eyes on a large forest grew just outside the main castle gates. According to word they had received from other guards stationed in the area, they had noticed some odd movement about the trees just seconds before being told of the attack.
In this very shadowy thicket, a shadowy figure rushes about, using the thick trunks of the trees to hide from the soldiers’ view. He was wary to ensure he didn’t step upon the dead leaves and twigs littering the ground, afraid the slightest sound would catch their immediate attention. Luck was on his side as he managed to get near the edge of the forest without being spotted. From his vantage point, he could make out each and every soldier waiting for him. Scratching his head in wonder, he proceeds to grasp the trunk of the nearest tree and claws his way atop the tree’s limbs. Once above, he peeks his head above the leafy brush just enough to survey the courtyard behind the main gates.
The young man was Link, a handsome young boy at the age of fifteen, tall and skinny with dirty blonde hair draped before his dark blue eyes. His hair flowing in the wind bothered him so he took out his pine green colored stocking cap and applied it to his head, all the while keeping a watch on all the soldiers’ movements and ensuring his movements didn’t alert the guards. His clothes and cap both matched the hue of the leaves surrounding him so he had hopes that would help him from being detected.
After several tense moments, the guards drew their weapons. They were aware that their own personal feelings had to be set aside. Defending the princess came first and foremost. Silence wafted over them until the slightest of sounds, a rustling amongst the ground caught the attention of several guards. Archers raised their bow and arrows, and took aim in the direction of the noise. A young Deku Scrub bounced out into the clearing, staring at the gathering of soldiers. Frightened at the weapons at it, it quickly scurries into the forest, much to the relief of the soldiers.
“It’s Link!” a soldier cries out from amongst the masses.
And just when he thought his makeshift camouflage was working. Taking a deep breath, the young teen lunges across treetops and at the very edge of the woods, he makes a daring leap out over the soldiers poised to take him out. A whistling fills his ears as the archers release a volley of arrows his way. Taking hold of the azure hilt of the sword strapped to his back, he withdraws the blade of evil’s bane itself from its sheath. Amazingly, he makes several quick slashes, slitting the arrows and deflecting many others that fall to the dirt road beneath him just before he lands.
The soldiers rush Link but he is quick to parry the oncoming barrage of swords and sends them recoiling with a spin attack. His superior skills gain him the upper hand with the soldiers outside the castle gates, but within the courtyard, the soldiers had locked the large wooden gates, preventing his entry.
He takes a quick glance downward and spies some bombs the soldiers had brought with them. Probably to force him out of the woods if the need arose. Snatching one up, he ignites the fuse while running back and hurls it with all his strength. Striking the gate, it falls to the ground and detonates seconds after hitting the ground, the fiery blast splintering the wooden gate to pieces. Sprinting past the wrecked gateway, Link makes his way into the courtyard where he is confronted with several more guards. He dispatches them without wasting time before reaching the front doors where a swift kick knocks them open and throws the guards that held them closed to the floor. They were already knocked down so he really didn’t need to waste anymore time.
Without anymore distractions, he made his way up to the uppermost level of the castle. With each level he passed, it became more and more quiet. Link just couldn’t help but be a little terrified of the ominous silence. He found it even stranger that there wasn’t a single soul wandering the halls. He thought at the very least he’d see a castle attendant. But one thing did catch Link’s attention as he looked around. All along the carpeted floor were drops of blood that led the way upstairs, along the very path he was taking.
Somewhere up on the top floor, the trail suddenly ceases, but that was of little concern. Link knew quite well where his destination was. He took his steps cautiously around corners, expecting to be attacked by surprise at any moment. But, the surprise never came. Rounding one last corner, he spies a lone doorway at the end of a long hallway. This was it. The narrow make of the hallway made it easy for him to notice that there were no more soldiers. Things were just getting stranger and stranger. It wasn’t like them to leave the entire castle itself abandoned. Perhaps it was by Zelda’s orders. But, where was she anyway?
That could wait till later. The hallway had become dimly lit as he came closer to the final doorway. From the crack under the door, a golden radiance spilled out, giving the hallway a least a bit of light. Link slowly inches the door open and peers inside. A wave of relief washed over him as he cracked a smile, his eyes falling upon the holy relic, the Triforce. Link turns around just to ensure he wasn’t being followed before he steps inside, shutting the door behind him. Link begins to tremble as each step took him closer to the radiant object.
“Good thing she just left it out here in the open,” Link mutters to himself, stopping inches from the altar holding the sacred object. A trembling hand reaches out, unsure of what would transpire once he laid hands upon the Triforce, but, even should its three components split when he placed his hand upon it, he was determined to take it far from the castle. Even outside the bounds of Hyrule if necessary.
“LINK!!” a woman’s shrill voice echoes in the young man’s head.
Terrified, he spins around and came face-to-face with Hyrule’s princess herself. In her grasp, she held a bow and arrow, drawn and ready to attack. But, it wasn’t that which had caught his attention. No. It was the look of hurt and anguish in her tear-filled blue eyes. The image just burned deep into his mind as a time when he had seen her at her most terrifying, but also her most hurt.
Without an inkling of hesitation, Zelda lets loose the arrow, sending it whipping through the air towards its intended target. In an instant, just before it dug deep into his flesh, a golden aura engulfed the arrow. His pained cries echoed the metal tip shoots into his flesh, exiting halfway through his shoulder. Before he even had the chance to recover from the pain, another arrow flew from Zelda’s bow, this one straight for his chest. Yet, this time it struck with such magically enhanced force, it tore straight through his body, the blood-soaked weapon piercing the wall behind him.
“Zelda. . .” he manages to chokes out clutching a hand to the hole in his chest. “But, why did you do this?” Link reaches the blood drenched hand outward, but his vision began to fail him. He couldn’t even make out the simplest of objects in the room anymore. A warming numbness spread throughout his body as his strength left him, leaving him far too weak to remain on his feet. Crumpling to the floor on hands and knees, loosing blood quickly, he looks up to where he believed the princess to be. Squinting to better his vision for a fleeting moment, that’s where he saw telltale red stain of blood on the front of her dress. Before another word could pass his lips, he lost all control. His strength gone, his vision gone dark, he hits the floor.
Exhaling sharply, Zelda drops her weapon and falls to her knees, clutching at her bloodied abdomen. Her mind was racing with questions, but she had little doubt they would be answered. But, the truth was there. Link had tried to kill her, but she wouldn’t allow herself to go down alone. Drawing Link in, the chance to exact revenge fell into her lap, an opportunity she would not squander. Seven years of friendship had come to an end in that moment.
Elsewhere in the castle, a man veiled in black, a hood cloaking his face, sits before a window whilst spinning a red lotus between his fingers. From here, he could see the mayhem that had struck just below in the courtyards. He lifted his gaze just slightly to look upon the town just outside the castle’s vicinity. It was likely that the commotion caused by the Link explosion invasion would spread and the people were likely in a panic. What happened? Are we under attack? Are we safe? All questions to pass through their thoughts at one point or another.
He grew dull of the constant pained cries of the soldiers Link had injured below and so, shut the windows to drown out the noise. The creak of the room’s wooden door reached his ears , but he didn’t even budge, not even as he heard footsteps approach.
Another man, he too clad in a vaguely similar black ensemble takes his place next to the figure. As he peered outside the windows, he smirks but suddenly stops when the seated figure peers up at him.
“It is done, Master.”
No trace of emotion was found upon the cloaked face. He instead turned slightly so as to peer outside while allowing his companion to gaze upon his visage. From beneath his veil, he articulates the very words he had been anxious to state for some time.
“The soul of the hero shall be reborn.”
