Prologue: A Legend Begins

Prologue: A Legend Begins

Sections

Unlike previous Zelda games, this game begins the moment Skyward Sword is clicked from the Wii menu. You are led into the prologue before you gain any control over the game. Unfortunately, you will only get to experience this scene once. You can’t skip it so sit back and enjoy!

A Legend Begins

When the cutscene ends, you will see the main menu. Press A to proceed onto the next screen where you will have the option to choose a game file.

From here you can rename your hero and press OK to begin your adventure!

At this point, there will be another cutscene introducing the world of Skyloft and Link’s dream. If you want to do so, you can skip this cutscene by pressing 2 on your Wii remote.

Link will awaken to Zelda’s Loftwing who came to deliver a letter. Zelda advises you to get up and meet her in preparation for a ceremony that day and you finally gain control of Link.

My Loftwing is Missing!?

Upon exiting your room, you’ll be led into several tutorials to explain the mechanics of the game. Keep in mind that these tutorials are completely optional. You can skip every one of these if you want and continue with the main storyline. They are self-explanatory and lead you directly to the place where Zelda is waiting for you.

Along with your first talk with her, you’ll be introduced to a new feature in Skyward Sword. You’ll notice several dialogue choices but have no fear as they will not affect your gameplay in any way! Some choices will direct you to more obvious results while others are just for the laughs. Certain characters will refer back to your choices when you meet them later in the story but there is no “bad” ending for making an awkward choice.

After your chat, Zelda encourages you to practice… literally. She pushes you character over the edge of Skyloft. It doesn’t matter how many times you push DOWN, your bird will not appear and Zelda will come to the rescue.

With this, you are finally in control of Link. Take the path down until you meet up with Groose. It’s fairly obvious to decipher who took your bird now (We all know Zelda did it) but Groose refuses to tell you outright where he hid the creature.

With the ceremony starting momentarily, Zelda comes to your rescue again and puts Groose in his place.

Unfortunately, Groose leaves without revealing the location of your Loftwing and it’s now up to you and Zelda to find it before the Ceremony starts. Zelda sets off on her bird to search the island while you set off on foot to locate the cave Groose and his buddies are known to hang out at.

Take the path up until you get to the school and drop into the schoolyard below. When you approach the door to the Sparring Hall, you’ll automatically get a cutscene explaining how to use your map and the coordinates of the cave.

Proceed through the door on the right to enter the practice room and get your first sword!

Upon exiting the school, take the path to your right. Continue through the tunnel and stay on the main road until you see a gate on your left. Go through the gate and stay on the path until you reach the Skyloft Waterfall. Jump over the obstacles and stay to your left to reach the cave.

Use your newly acquired sword to chop down the trees blocking your way and proceed inside. You will have to use several downward thrusts to completely eradicate the tree stumps.

Waterfall Cave

After entering the Waterfall Cave, keep to the path destroying any enemies if needed.

Use your dash ability to run up the steep ramp blocking your way.

To the right should be a vine. Climb up to claim your reward of 20 Rupees.

Continuing down the path, you’ll find a wall in your way. Simply use your dash ability to climb over it and proceed outside.

Once outside you’ll find a bird statue. Use it to save your progress and walk to the right to meet with Zelda. Continue going down the path until you reach your Loftwing.

To free your bird you will have to position your attacks according to the ropes. Destroy the barrels first then concentrate on making a direct hit to each of them. You may need to hit each hope more than once depending on how accurate your strikes are. The cutscene will only trigger if each rope is completely gone!

After reuniting with your bird, Link will jump off Skyloft again. Press DOWN as you had done before and your Loftwing will come to catch you this time!

Mastering Your Loftwing

Next, you will be concentrating on learning to fly. To change the direction you are going in, tilt the Wii Remote left and right. To speed up, tilt the Wii Remote up than down quickly to dive. Keep repeating this to make your Loftwing go faster and faster. Press A to charge and B to slow down.
If you forget any of the controls, simply press 2 on your Wii Remote for the explanation.

The Wing Ceremony

After your practice, you will be directed to the Wing Ceremony! It’s time to put all that work to good use and win for Zelda!

There is no reason to get discouraged if you have difficulty catching the golden bird. You cannot “loose” the ceremony no matter how long it takes. After your first attempt at catching it, Groose and his gang will begin to throw eggs that slow your bird down but the objective still stays the same.

After the ceremony, the scene will cut to the Goddess Statue where Zelda presents you with the Sailcloth as a prize for your victory. On cue, tilt your Wii remote so that Link is positioned above the center circle and press B when prompted to open your Sailcloth.

Claiming the Goddess Sword

After a strange turn of events, Link will find himself asleep in the dormitory. After explaining to Zelda’s father what happened, exit the room and follow the girl up the stairs and outside. Keep following her, steering clear of Remlits (the cat like creatures that become evil at night) and grab onto ledge to slide across the side of the statue. After a few more obstacles, proceed inside the statue and claim your sword.

After performing a Skyward Strike, you are free to travel to Faron and begin your journey!
