The third Legend of Zelda game for the Gamecube, Twilight Princess originally went by the name "Wind Waker 2." At E3 2004, that codename was dropped and crowds were shocked to find that the game was not, in fact, cel-shaded or a continuation of the Wind Waker's graphical style. Not much later Nintendo also revealed that this game would be released at the same time as the Wii is launched. This makes the TP the first Zelda game to be a launch game of a new platform.
The story of this game begins when Link, a young man raised as a wrangler in a small, rural village, is ordered by the mayor to attend the Hyrule Summit. He sets off, oblivious to the dark fate that has descended upon the kingdom. When he enters the Twilight Realm that has covered Hyrule, he transforms into a wolf and is captured. A mysterious figure named Midna helps him break free, and with the aid of her magic, they set off to free the land from the shadows.
Twilight Princess seems to emphasize animals and Link's relationships with them. This is shown especially well by the way Link's horse, which the user can name, plays a large role in the game, or by the way Link can transform into a wolf.
