Link Swims THrough the Swamp Palace

Link's next destination was the Swamp Palace in the south. The entrance wasn't hidden, but inside the palace Link could not progress. He saw a ladder hanging down, but he couldn't jump up and reach it. The situation looked hopeless, but Sahasrahla contacted Link and told him that objects exist simultaneously in both worlds with similar shapes. If the form of a thing changed, it would affect the shape of its twin in the other world.

Armed with this valuable clue, Link went back outside and gazed into his Magic Mirror. The Dark World faded into white, and a moment later Link was standing in the Light World, next to a familiar-looking building. Inside this building was a switch. Link pulled it, and the floodgates opened, draining the lake and filling up the dungeon. Link realized that in the Dark World the Swamp Palace would also be flooded, but alas, he didn't know how to swim.

Link remembered someone mentioning a creature at the river's source who could turn him into a fish. Following this tip, Link traveled upstream through shallow water, avoiding hostile river Zoras and being careful not to fall into deep water. When Link finally reached Zora's Waterfall, he didn't see anything. Suddenly he heard a rumble, and the biggest Zora he had ever seen popped out of the water. This helpful monster offered to sell Link a pair of flippers for 500 Rupees. Link gagged at the price, but gave the water creature the money. As a free bonus, the Zora let Link use the magic water ways of the sea folk which linked lakes and rivers. He told Link to dive into a whirlpool if he saw one.

Using Zora's whirlpools, Link quickly got back to southern Hyrule's marshlands. Since he had used the Magic Mirror to return to the Light World, a teleporter back to the Dark World had remained, and Link used it. Now that he had the flippers, Link swam through the Swamp Palace with ease, fending off water-skimming Tektites and creatures that popped out of sewage pipes. In this palace Link obtained the Hookshot, which allowed him to cross gaps by hooking onto pots and chests. In the last room of the palace Link faced Arrghus, a one-eyed jellyfish surrounded by protective blobs of mucus. Link used the Hookshot to pull the blobs towards him, and destroyed them one at a time. Now defenseless, Arrghus tried to charge Link, sliding around and bumping off of walls. Link was ready with his sword, and cut down the monster.

Arrghus

A sparkling blue crystal dropped to the floor, and Link picked it up. This maiden told Link:

The Triforce will grant the wishes of whoever touches it, as long as that person lives. That is why it was hidden in the Golden Land. Only a select few knew of its location, but at some point that knowledge was lost. The person who rediscovered the Golden Land was Ganondorf the thief. Luckily, he couldn't figure out how to return to the Light World. Well, remember that you have magical powers, which only The Hero can make the most of! There are some other magical warping points like the one you saw on Death Mountain. By using them you can go between the two worlds and find the evils hidden in the Dark World. You are the only one who can destroy Ganondorf, the thief - no, Ganon, the evil King of Darkness!
