Link's map showed him that the sixth kidnapped maiden was trapped in the Swamp of Evil in the southwest of the Dark World. Link traveled there but found a sign that read: "Swamp of Evil: no entrance, no escape." Indeed, Link could see high, unassailable cliffs in the distance. Using the Magic Mirror, Link escaped to the Light World and played the flute. The mysterious white bird swooped down and flew him to a precarious cliff in the Desert of Mystery, where he found a portal to the Dark World under a heavy stone.
Upon entering the Dark World, Link found himself in the midst of a terrible storm. Rain beat against him mercilessly, and the utter darkness was interrupted only by the occasional flash of lightning and rumble of thunder. He was indeed in the Swamp of Evil, but conditions weren't normal. Link found a pedestal with a strange emblem on it, but he didn't understand what the symbol meant. Exploring the perimeter of the cliff-enclosed mire, Link found a cave and took shelter in it to escape from the driving rain. The cave was inhabited by a beetle-like creature, who told Link:
- As a matter of fact, monster magic is making it rain in the swamp. If
you can move the air with more force than the monsters, the rain may stop.
Link knew of no other way to control the weather than by obtaining arcane forms of magic. He remembered seeing an ancient monolith in the Desert of Mystery, and by warping back and forth between the two worlds he succeeded in reaching it on its high cliff. Link used the Book of Mudora to translate the inscription on the stone tablet, and read, "Hold up the Master Sword and you will get the magic of Bombos." Holding up the Blade of Evil's Bane, Link received the Bombos Medallion, whose magic could make the ground explode with power, but this could not help him drive away the storm.
Link explored the northeast of the Dark World, and near the Lake of Ill Omen he read a sign which said, "Curses to anyone who throws something into my circle of stones." After much indecision, Link decided to take a chance and throw something in. A powerful earthquake shook the ground and a huge fish monster leaped out of the water. Scolding Link for disturbing his peaceful nap, he gave Link the Quake Medallion in exchange for his promise that he would go away. This magic enabled Link to shake the ground and defeat nearby enemies, but he couldn't move the air with it.
The last place Link tried was atop Death Moutain, west of the Tower of Hera across a rickety wooden bridge. Another stone monolith told him to hold up the Master Sword to receive the magic of Ether. At last, Link had found a form of magic that allowed him to control the upper atmosphere and polar wind. Link took his prize to the pedestal in the Swamp of Evil and saw that the symbol on the pedestal matched that on the Ether Medallion. Casting the Ether spell, the storm was dissipated, the waters sank, and the entrance to Misery Mire, the stronghold of the monsters, was exposed.
Powerful magicians known as Wizzrobes warped in and out of sight inside
this dungeon, and Link struck them when they appeared, after dodging their
magical beams. Traps guarded the treasure of this dungeon. Link ran across a
collapsing bridge while eyeballs in the walls shot beams of energy at him. The
treasure that was being guarded so heavily was the red Cane of Somaria, which
could create blocks formed from magic power.
Link used this powerful staff to hold down switches in the dark basement of the palace, and worked his way to the lair of Vitreous, a gigantic mass of eyeballs wallowing in a mass of toxic bog goo. Some of the smaller eyeballs bounced towards Link and cornered him, but he fought back courageously with the Master Sword. Vitreous tried casting lightning, but Link dodged away just in time. With all of the smaller eyes defeated, the last remaining eyeball, a huge one, bounced towards Link to crush him. Link danced around him and finished him off with his sword.

A crystal dropped to the ground and the kidnapped maiden told Link:
- Ganon captured us because he couldn't break the seal of the seven sages
with his power alone. And then, using the wizard Agahnim as his pawn, he drew
us to the Dark World. After cracking the seal with our powers, he sealed us inside
of these crystals. He then gave us to his loyal monsters. But Ganon didn't plan on
your getting this far. Now, Princess Zelda is waiting for you inside of Turtle Rock.
Please hurry!
